Acharya Newsletter - June 2016

Dear Friends,

We have some exciting news to share on the progress and release strategy of our film,Acharya
Acharya is currently in post-production with a 2-hour rough edit completed.
We are also in consultation with the filmmakers behind the widely successful film Awake: The Life of Yogananda, who we met up with while we were in LA in March…

L.A. Trip

We showed them the most recent edit of the film, and they shared with us some very constructive and encouraging feedback. Here is some of what they said:
“This film will be huge. Prabhupada is so powerful and it is such an incredible story. You’ve done such a great job, you have really honored him. The world needs this and I think you’ve found a good tone that people are going to be able to hear.”
- Paola di Flora (Oscar nominated filmmaker and successful TV producer. Director of Awake: The Life of Yogananda)

“Its beautiful and its going to be really strong…I was absorbed.”
- Peter Rader (Successful writer & director. Producer of Awake: The Life of Yogananda)

“Krishna consciousness landed in an extraordinary moment in history and was expressed by a person who you’re going get to know in this film in a very particular, very powerful way. And to me that is so astonishing. It’s a great story.”
- Stuart Sender (Two time Oscar nominated filmmaker, broadcast journalist and screenwriter)

Sadhu Sanga Retreat

The Acharya team were lucky enough to attend Sadhu Sanga in May. In a stunning location and  surrounded by beautiful kirtans, this Retreat was the perfect opportunity for us to relax and refocus before the final months of production. While there, we showed our 50th Anniversary Special Preview (available to watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/--ocjcB3Vg8), and updated the 1,800 participants present on the film’s progress and our release strategy…

Release Update

Due to worldwide film festival schedules, Acharya will be released in early 2017. Submitting Acharya to film festivals will increase our international audience and allow more people to hear Srila Prabhupada’s unique story and message.
After the festivals and throughout 2017, premiers will be held in major North American cities and then internationally.
Following this, our grassroots theatrical distribution campaign will kick off! We will be providing screening packages to individuals and communities worldwide to facilitate Acharya screenings in local theaters or centers.
Then the film will be available on DVD and possibly on VOD (i.e. Netflix, Amazon).
However, to achieve these goals WE NEED YOU!
Today, millions of people are interested in spirituality, yoga, and conscious living, and Acharya, which covers all these topics, can potentially reach a huge public audience.
Therefore, we are looking for:
  • Enthusiastic Outreach Coordinators to help with our grassroots distribution campaign. Coordinators will contact and communicate with their specific community and help set up and manage local public film screenings.
  • Skilled and motivated individuals to help with distribution, social media, graphic and website design, marketing, communications, and other related fields.
